Available on VHS videotape (limited stocks) and DVD
The videobook has taken two years to make and runs for 1 hour, 34 minutes. The tape/DVD shows Kata, which is a form or pattern of pre-conceived movements, representing defences and counter-attacks.
There are fifteen Kata featured, each one being shown from three directions: slow speed 45 degrees from the right-hand side; fast 45 degrees from the left-hand side; and slow for behind. These directions cover every movement performed, and also give an indication of the speed of movement, the breathing control, and the focus of energy.
Each Kata also has an accompanying page of text (on-screen), which gives an insight into the history and background of the Kata.
Some of the movements are clarified to the viewer / practitioner by demonstrating the movements with an opponent attacking, so creating the relevant application.
I am a fifth degree blackbelt (Godan) black belt in Shotokan Karate,
and have been involved with Karate for approximately 24 years. The idea of making the video was to create a reference video, containing good reliable information at a low cost, enabling everyone interested in Karate the chance to further their knowledge without costing a fortune. The normal retail price is £14.99 (UK STG) but can be obtained direct for just £14.50 (UK STG), including post and packing.
The Kata included on the tape are as follows:
Taikyoku Shodan (Kion Kata) |
